Shanen Prout is of counsel at Bly Law, PC. He has an active practice representing large and small companies and individuals in the fashion, arts, film, video gaming, music, literary, new media and e-commerce industries. Mr. Prout's clients include video game producers, small film studios, museums, artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, non-profits, retail stores and restaurants.

Mr. Prout represents both plaintiffs and defendants in business-related litigation before California state and federal courts. Clients retain Mr. Prout to prosecute and defend against claims related to trademark and copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract and commercial disagreements, partnership and corporate disputes, litigation between employers and employees, debt collection, fraud, defamation, misrepresentation, and tort law injuries.

Mr. Prout also assists small businesses and start-ups to determine the best structure for their new venture, and with general counsel services. Clients retain Mr. Prout to assist them with business transactions with their partners, employees, service providers, vendors, and customers. Mr. Prout provides significant and regular counsel to clients concerning how to protect and capitalize on their intellectual property, cost effectively meet regulatory obligations, and avoid and appropriately respond to disputes with employees, partners, competitors and infringers.

Mr. Prout previously was an Associate Attorney for several years with a large law firm in Los Angeles, where he represented companies and individuals in partnership, employment, trademark, copyright, and products liability lawsuits often involving multi-million dollar demands, dozens of witnesses, and large amounts of evidence.

Mr. Prout graduated from the University of San Diego Law School in 2005. Mr. Prout received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and American and English Literature from the University of California, Davis, and completed coursework in International Commercial Arbitration and International Human Rights at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Mr. Prout is an active member of the State Bar of California’s Litigation, and Business Law Sections, and is an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Entertainment Law & Intellectual Property, and Litigation Sections. Mr. Prout is also a Panel Attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts, a non-profit association that provides artists, arts organizations, and entertainment industry workers with affordable access to legal and business information and services.

Mr. Prout has been a lifelong Californian and is a multi-generational resident of Los Angeles. He was born in Pasadena and grew up in the adjacent community of San Marino. As a native of Southern California, Mr. Prout takes great pleasure in helping California-based businesses establish and maintain a healthy, profitable presence in our state and beyond. Mr. Prout seeks to create a long-term presence in California and he looks to work with like-minded individuals and companies who view themselves as positive actors in the business and cultural climate of Los Angeles and throughout California.

Mr. Prout currently resides in Santa Monica. He enjoys traveling; reading literary, political, legal, economic and popular culture material; listening to many kinds of music and attending live concerts; theater; visiting art galleries and museums; skiing; hiking; jogging; playing and watching tennis; following professional and college football; and riding his bike around the Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey and South Bay areas.
